Artist statement

I am a visual artist working with storytelling. I mainly use ink, pen, charcoal, and pencil to create small-scale, intimate drawings and books. I'm interested in the flawed human gesture, that which is made out of necessity. My work usually begins with writing or language, which is used to create allegories.
My work is focused on self-questioning and philosophical concerns.
Based on the problem of unavoidable subjectivity and the weakness of the human mind, I work with themes of loneliness and despair that I believe unify us all in a precise, yet subtle way. Every work is strongly personal, leading to a form of confession or self-portraiture. I use this approach, as well as the power of stories, as a tool that relies on the belief that my own subjective experience will be connected to a shared human truth.
