Margaret Abeshu Leversby (born in Ethiopia 1990) is a designer and visual artist currently based in Oslo. She has graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts with a MA in Clothing design and Costume design. Her Works has previously been shown at Norsk Billedhoggerforening, Fotogalleriet, Billedkunstnere in Oslo, Kunsthallen I Oslo, Kunstnernes Hus, Munchmuseet & Oslo Runway. In her practice, she works with installation, still and moving images, and sartorial presentations. Her works are based on critical theory, art, and fashion in western cultural context. Her research draws thoughts from marginalized thinkers’ and radical movements that continues in opposing and questioning the socio-political realities constructed out of the four pillars of our contemporaneity: imperialism, colonialism, modernity, and capitalism. In raising significant societal-related questions to re-evaluate how we understand realities, power, narratives, ideologies, ignored knowledge, and cultures in written and unwritten forms. She draws parallels between her fragmented childhood (personal & collective) memories to the Black- and Afro-diasporan experiences from the past, present and future to further explore the relationship between the body we carry, the spirit we inherit, and the object we create. Using her experiences and fictive scenarios as a method to navigate a research-based practice.
