Artist statement
-Åpent atelier søndag 24.september 2023-
Kunstnerskapet til Sætre kretser rundt tematikker som handler om den psykologiske hverdagen, i forhold til oss selv og samfunnet vi lever i. Arbeider ser på de minste gester og hvordan de kan spille opp mot kroppslige og psykologiske rammeverk og nedarvede strukturer, en form for bearbeidelse av filosofiske størrelser som tilgivelse, skyld og frihet, både i nære relasjoner og i nasjonale og internasjonale politiske anliggender.
Sætre jobber innenfor ulike disipliner; med dialogbasert kunst, performance, foto, maleri, video og lyd. Sætres arbeider har blitt vist over hele verden.
Kunstner Gitte Sætre er utdannet fra Norge, Danmark og Mexico. Hun har vært aktiv som billedkunstner i Norge siden hun flyttet tilbake i 2003. Hun er kjent for sine undersøkelser av mulighetsrommet som ligger i kunsten. Gjennom prosjekter som fotoserien Morstøv (2013-2015), kunstnergruppen Inepic (2013-2015), performance serien Woman Cleaning (pågående), det dialogbaserte Soups&Stories (2012-2017), filmprosjektene Magic of Seven (2016), Green hijab movement (2016-2018) og den hybride web-tv serien Are You Ready? (2019-2022).
Sætre fikk i 2018 tildelt fem år med statens arbeidsstipend for å undersøke ulike strategier for kunstneren som samfunnsaktør. Prosjekter knyttet til denne forskningen var: Krigsteateret Trident Juncture (2018) og Kommisjonen for de Gode Løsningene (2022) gjennomført på Den Nationale Scene i Bergen.
